Evgeniy Buznikin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robustiano Alcantara in the 15th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Erast Taraskin came free, but Reces Masson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Konstantin Haritonov notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Chile's Reces Masson. Reces Masson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Russia's defense didn't have a chance, in the 41st minute, when Robustiano Alcantara scored to the left of an out of position Evgeniy Buznikin, making the score, 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Ariano Dávila hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. Egor Simonovs short, quick shot in the 56thth minute got Reces Masson to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 60th minute Robustiano Alcantara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evgeniy Buznikin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chile made a substitution. Russia's supporters rose to their feet, but Erast Taraskin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reces Masson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Konstantin Haritonov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Alberto Albertz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Evgeniy Buznikin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play. Reces Masson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Konstantin Haritonov went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Chile's Xabier Christie quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Mark Kiselev, made in the 86th minute of the game. Zinoviy Konstantinovskiy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 92 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Erast Taraskin came free, but Reces Masson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Evgeniy Buznikin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Alberto Albertz, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Russia had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
