When Konstantin Haritonov came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Russia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Konstantin Haritonov couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Egor Belyaev managed to get in a good position for a shot. Russia's supporters rose to their feet, but Egor Belyaev was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sergio Van Houtvin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Johannes Westelinx got free with Evgeniy Buznikin in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Russia getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Roman Makushev hit a great ball. Dylan Van Hoof hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Konstantin Haritonov took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Sergio Van Houtvin. Sergio Van Houtvin dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Octave Van Den Abeele sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Octave Van Den Abeele recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Evgeniy Buznikin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Octave Van Den Abeele, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Johannes Westelinx to make the kick off. Robbe Van Den Bosch made a great header on Belgium's corner, it was just that Russia's Evgeniy Buznikin managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Russia's goalkeeper Evgeniy Buznikin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Belgium's Tomm van Hagenborgh managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Anatoliy Strizhov in the 80 minute of the game. After taking down the ball on Russia's corner Anatoliy Strizhov fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Sergio Van Houtvin quite easily take care of the ball.
