Ale Ba was slow to take the kick. During this time Slovakia's players had a chance to rest. Ale Ba made a great header on Slovakia's corner, it was just that Ukraine's Rodion Bodnya managed to reach the ball for a save. 30 minutes into the match, Marjan Sylych notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Slovakia's Ivan Karvaš. After 55 minutes, Orest Sobko mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ukraine and the Slovakia players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Slovakia booed when Ukraine was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orest Sobko didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marjan Sylych in the 67th minute of play forced Slovakia's goalkeeper Ivan Karvaš to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Marjan Sylych came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Ukraine fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marjan Sylych couldn't finish the play. Ukraine made a substitution. Viktor Stoyan replaced Lyubomyr Zhenyukh. Marjan Sylych struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Ivan Karvaš didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ukraine. Ivan Karvaš showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marjan Sylych in the 75th minute of the match. Rodion Bodnya showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matúš Mikovíni, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Orest Sobko who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 90thth minute tested the skills of Ivan Karvaš when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 92nd minute, Roland Bajzík hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ukraine's Mefodiy Yefymenko got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mefodiy Yefymenko might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ivan Karvaš. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mefodiy Yefymenko ran back to his position shaking his head. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Ukraine walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
