Hansen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Baiste O'Neill tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 17th minute Donavon Dalton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fríðrikur Castilho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of U21 Ireland booed when U21 Faroe Islands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronnie Danielsen didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Ireland's Baiste O'Neill played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jón G. Hansen in the 40th minute of play. With a little luck, U21 Ireland's Baiste O'Neill got control of the ball when Jákup Midjurd tried to sneak it across the goal line. Kain McJohn's late challenge caught a U21 Faroe Islands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ronnie Danielsen was the one to do the kick off. Fríðrikur Castilho stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Donavon Dalton's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Jákup Midjurd fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Baiste O'Neill having to interfere. In the 62nd minute Donavon Dalton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fríðrikur Castilho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 64 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Faroe Islands's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Kain McJohn was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Ireland's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of U21 Faroe Islands's goalie and right to Danann McStephen. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. U21 Faroe Islands's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Baiste O'Neill stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jákup Midjurd's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. 72 minutes into the match, Donavon Dalton dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fríðrikur Castilho, 2-4. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Ireland walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
