After taking down the ball on Austria's corner Hüseyin Sağlam fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Carlo Incorvaia quite easily take care of the ball. Torben Schwärzler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlo Incorvaia having to interfere. Malta's Carlo Incorvaia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ovidiu Adrian in the 16th minute of play. Torben Schwärzler blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlo Incorvaia having to make a save. 18 minutes into the match, Malta's goal looked a bit too open when Torben Schwärzler came free, but Carlo Incorvaia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22nd minute of the match, Tommy Desira got a very nice opportunity to score, but Bastian Pretzer was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Torben Schwärzler in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlo Incorvaia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Austria fans' excitement grew in the 23rd match minute when Austria's Torben Schwärzler looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Carlo Incorvaia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Torben Schwärzler's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. The corner ended in Hüseyin Sağlam almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Malta's Carlo Incorvaia did a great save. Torben Schwärzler recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Joe Cioffi hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. In the 42nd minute, Ovidiu Adrian left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Austria fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Hüseyin Sağlam hit a great ball. In the 46th minute, Malta's Andrew Griffiths dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. Malta's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Hüseyin Sağlam ran over to the corner to take the kick. A very nice done corner allowed Frank-Dieter Kiesenebner to score against Carlo Incorvaia in Malta's goal. 1-5 after 93 minutes.
