Slovakia's Ivan Karvaš played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Torben Schwärzler in the 8th minute of play. 9 minutes into the match, Austria's goalkeeper Bastian Pretzer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Úranus Supiks-Pupiks. After 10 minutes Austria's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ján Vajda who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Ján Vajda almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Austria's Bastian Pretzer did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Peer Stocker in the 12th minute of play forced Slovakia's goalkeeper Ivan Karvaš to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 14 minutes had been played when some careless play by Slovakia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Benjamin Joeckel was slow to take the kick. During this time Austria's players had a chance to rest. In the 15th minute Torben Schwärzler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivan Karvaš saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 15 minutes into the match, Slovakia's goal looked a bit too open when Torben Schwärzler came free, but Ivan Karvaš reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Austria's Herbert Reiners got a free kick in the 17th minute. Austria's Bastian Pretzer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Úranus Supiks-Pupiks in the 18th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Slovakia's goal looked a bit too open when Andre Kalvelage came free, but Ivan Karvaš reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 24th minute Ale Ba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bastian Pretzer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lukáš Dubák in the 27th minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Bastian Pretzer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ivan Karvaš made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Torben Schwärzler in the 35th minute of play. Tibor Jež made a great header on Slovakia's corner, it was just that Austria's Bastian Pretzer managed to reach the ball for a save. Ján Vajda could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Bastian Pretzer made a huge save. Ľubomír Bienik got a throw-in 45 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Stanislav Nový. Stanislav Nový sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Peer Stocker to make the kick off. Austria's Peer Stocker got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Peer Stocker received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Ivan Karvaš tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Slovakia's Lukáš Dubák in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Austria's goalie prevented a goal. In the 60th minute Andre Kalvelage shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivan Karvaš saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Torben Schwärzler in the 62nd minute of play forced Slovakia's goalkeeper Ivan Karvaš to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ivan Karvaš took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torben Schwärzler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ivan Karvaš showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Torben Schwärzler in the 67th minute of the match. Ivan Karvaš was out of position in the 71 minute of play, and Torben Schwärzler capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Torben Schwärzler really showed his touch with that goal: 0-1. Austria made a substitution. Jan-Moritz Grabner replaced Andre Kalvelage. Ivan Karvaš made an important save on a dangerous shot by Torben Schwärzler in the 76th minute. Ivan Karvaš showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Torben Schwärzler, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. In the 89thth minute of the game Peer Stocker who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Slovakia's Ivan Karvaš was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ivan Karvaš came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Austria's Peer Stocker. But to his dismay, Peer Stocker quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 94 minutes into the match, Marián Bienik notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Austria's Bastian Pretzer. Bastian Pretzer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The Austria supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Austria would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
