An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Tavares in the 3rd minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Bastian Pretzer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Austria's Bastian Pretzer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Tavares in the 4th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo Tavares in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bastian Pretzer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Austria's Frank Riberby got a free kick in the 14th minute. Diogo Setúbal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jörg Peintner, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Diogo Setúbal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Björn Michalowicz in the 17th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Herbert Reiners came free, but Diogo Setúbal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Reiners in the 20th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Diogo Setúbal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the match, Austria's goalkeeper Bastian Pretzer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jorge Mota. Diogo Setúbal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Herbert Reiners in the 23rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo Tavares in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bastian Pretzer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Diogo Setúbal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jörg Peintner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bastian Pretzer made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when João Neves sent off a good shot on target. Austria's Bastian Pretzer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Tavares in the 32nd minute of play. In the 36th minute Paulo Tavares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bastian Pretzer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th match minute, Portugal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquim Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. In the 38th minute of the match, Hüseyin Sağlam sent away a good long shot that could have become a goal, but Diogo Setúbal showed an example of his skillful tending and made the save just under the crossbar. In the 39th minute Herbert Reiners shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diogo Setúbal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Abel Fernandes fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Portugal's protests and gave Abel Fernandes a yellow card for diving instead. Austria's Andre Kalvelage was substituted for Benjamin Joeckel. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Abel Fernandes got a free kick in the 42nd minute.

Portugal made a substitution. Luís Leal replaced João Neves. Bastian Pretzer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Leal in the 55th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luís Leal in the 61st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bastian Pretzer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 62 minutes into the match, Luís Leal notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Austria's Bastian Pretzer. Bastian Pretzer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Bastian Pretzer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Leal in the 65th minute of the match. Luís Leal scored 3-1 in the 67th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bastian Pretzer, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Austria's zone, Luís Leal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bastian Pretzer came out of the goal and Luís Leal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bastian Pretzer came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by Portugal's Luís Leal. But to his dismay, Luís Leal quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Luís Leal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bastian Pretzer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 76th minute of play. A nice corner shot did that Emílio Rodrigues got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Bastian Pretzer quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 80 minutes into the game, Portugal's Luís Leal nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bastian Pretzer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-1. Luís Leal scored 6-1 in the 82nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bastian Pretzer, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Luís Leal struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Bastian Pretzer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portugal. After some careless play in the Austria defense, Luís Leal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bastian Pretzer. The Austria fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bastian Pretzer should have stopped the shot. Luís Leal might have been able to make a better finish in the 97th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bastian Pretzer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luís Leal ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 97th minute Luís Leal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bastian Pretzer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Austria's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
