Spectators: 10306 (Terracing: 7730, Seating: 2370, VIP seats: 206) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Alberto Lizano took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 6th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anselmo Volio to maneuver through the defense. After 8 minutes, Alberto Lizano made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Colombia's Wilder Guevara tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Wilder Guevara made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Alberto Lizano sent off a good shot on target. In the 17th minute, Regis Travieso left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Colombia fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. 20 minutes into the match, U21 Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Esquipula Ganchegui came free, but Ignacio Redondo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Anselmo Volio kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. In the 23rd minute Regis Travieso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ignacio Redondo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ignacio Redondo came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Colombia's Edorta Saez. But to his dismay, Edorta Saez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Ignacio Redondo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Esquipula Ganchegui, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Colombia's Regis Travieso was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ignacio Redondo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When Alberto Lizano in the 31st play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Wilder Guevara kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 2-3 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. 36 minutes into the game, Henry Castro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Colombia the free kick. In the 36th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Henry Castro to maneuver through the defense. After 37 played minutes U21 Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Anselmo Volio. A collision led to U21 Costa Rica getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Fabio Duran hit a great ball. Esquipula Ganchegui struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Ignacio Redondo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Colombia. In the 44th minute, Regis Travieso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ignacio Redondo was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4. After the first half U21 Colombia were leading 2-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Regis Travieso to make the kick off. In the 63rd minute, Eladio Naranjo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eladio Naranjo kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Wilder Guevara showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabio Duran in the 70th minute of the match. After 70 played minutes U21 Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Anselmo Volio. U21 Colombia's Garcia Azuela was substituted for Regis Travieso. U21 Costa Rica's Tomas Guillen was substituted for Alberto Lizano. After 72 played minutes U21 Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Anselmo Volio. An unexpectedly hard shot by Garcia Azuela in the 74th minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Ignacio Redondo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Garcia Azuela recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ignacio Redondo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Esquipula Ganchegui, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 91st match minute, U21 Colombia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fraco Baresi to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Garcia Azuela in the 94th minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Ignacio Redondo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The U21 Colombia players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
