A collision led to Canada getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Son Rosa hit a great ball. 10 minutes into the match, Chile's Javier Andueza sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Omer Norman narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 11 minutes had been played when some careless play by Canada's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Alfredo Melivilu was slow to take the kick. During this time Chile's players had a chance to rest. The tension between the Canada and the Chile players grew even worse after the yellow card.
