Chile's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Mijat Kresić was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Florencio Bühler showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-0 in the 29 minute of play. Croatia were awarded a corner in the 34th minute after Chile's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ilko Čuvalo took the corner. Higinio Somoza got a throw-in 37 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Ubaldo Horta. If José Alejandro Irizar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Višeslav Hrvatinić to make the kick off. There was no doubt that Chile were the better team. Chile's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
