Colo-Colo's Eladio Escalona proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Colo-Colo from getting a goal against them. When Ritchie Obis came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Black Rose 1979 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ritchie Obis couldn't finish the play. In the 29th match minute, Black Rose 1979 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastián Cassin to maneuver through the defense. After 38 played minutes Black Rose 1979 got a freekick which was hit by Enzo-Nicolás Pérez. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubén Martínez in the 39th minute of play. Colo-Colo's José Julio Almeida shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 52nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Karl-Johan Ahlqvist but with some difficulty. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubén Martínez in the 63rd minute of play forced Black Rose 1979's goalkeeper Karl-Johan Ahlqvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eladio Escalona showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ritchie Obis in the 64th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Waldemar Matorin in the 67th minute of play forced Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Eladio Escalona to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubén Martínez in the 68th minute of play. Honorio Droguett recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Colo-Colo's Emerson Pereira was substituted for José Julio Almeida. Eladio Escalona made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from D.J. Gol in the 71st minute of play. In the 74th minute of the match Black Rose 1979 got a corner. Colo-Colo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ritchie Obis ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Ritchie Obis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Eladio Escalona quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emerson Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Colo-Colo's Emerson Pereira in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The audience was convinced that Waldemar Matorin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eladio Escalona was relentless in the 97th minute of the game. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Colo-Colo had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
