The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Aga Raben showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mart Palermo, who was totally free with the ball in the 2nd minute. Devoto club social were awarded a corner in the 4th minute after Batalhão do Peçanha's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Zacarias Qwinton took the corner. After taking down the ball on Devoto club social's corner Zacarias Qwinton fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Aga Raben quite easily take care of the ball. In the 5th match minute, Devoto club social was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gaby Batistuta to maneuver through the defense. Toninho Xavier kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Zacarias Qwinton was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 11th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Pavel Chivu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from William Torres, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Geovanni Eger recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Pavel Chivu made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Geovanni Eger sent off a good shot on target. Devoto club social's Pavel Chivu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Väinö Caca-Rato in the 23rd minute of play. When Osvaldo Ticho fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Devoto club social's protests and gave Osvaldo Ticho a yellow card for diving instead. After 23 played minutes Devoto club social got a freekick which was hit by Osvaldo Ticho. Pavel Chivu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from William Torres, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gervasio Tebaldo was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 26 minutes into the match. After 26 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Devoto club social! The goalkeeper, Pavel Chivu, was totally fooled by Batalhão do Peçanha's Dráusio das Neves, who 29 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. William Torres blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pavel Chivu having to make a save. 34 minutes into the game, Lucas Chance cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Aga Raben was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. William Torres struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Pavel Chivu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Batalhão do Peçanha. Devoto club social's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Batalhão do Peçanha the free kick. A collision led to Devoto club social getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Lucas Chance hit a great ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
After 53 minutes of play, Batalhão do Peçanha's Väinö Caca-Rato made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pavel Chivu was left in no man's land by his defense there! 57 minutes into the match, William Torres had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pavel Chivu. Devoto club social's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that William Torres was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aga Raben prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers William Torres in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pavel Chivu saved Devoto club social from getting behind. William Torres kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Batalhão do Peçanha's goalkeeper Aga Raben, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Batalhão do Peçanha getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Toninho Xavier hit a great ball. In the 81st minute William Torres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pavel Chivu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that William Torres's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pavel Chivu was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. In the 83rd minute, Lucas Chance hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Devoto club social's goalkeeper Pavel Chivu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Pavel Chivu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of William Torres's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. When William Torres, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 88 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Pavel Chivu was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. In the 90thth minute of the game William Torres who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Devoto club social's Pavel Chivu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Pavel Chivu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Geovanni Eger in the 91st minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Devoto club social's Osvaldo Ticho got a free kick in the 93rd minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Batalhão do Peçanha fans cheered their team off the field, for while Devoto club social had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
