Spectators: 36 (Terracing: 28, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Joaquim Queirós kicked off to start the match. In the 2nd minute Toninho Goiano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eugênio Teles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Toninho Goiano in the 7th minute of play forced SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Eugênio Teles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The MINEIROS fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when MINEIROS's Toninho Goiano looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Eugênio Teles came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by MINEIROS's Joel Quadros. But to his dismay, Joel Quadros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Agostinho Pombal put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Serginho Taffarel. If Benê Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute of the match Reginaldo de Brito shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Serginho Taffarel showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Toninho Goiano in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eugênio Teles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 41 played minutes MINEIROS got a freekick which was hit by João Paraíba. Artur Branco charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Artur Branco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 42 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Artur Branco. Silvinho Brodel hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Toninho Goiano's late challenge caught a SORRISO E. C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Toninho Goiano helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to MINEIROS getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Toninho Goiano hit a great ball. Serginho Taffarel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Joaquim Queirós went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. MINEIROS's Maicon Quintal was substituted for Joel Quadros. After 66 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Cássio Borges. Toninho Goiano's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 67thth minute, Eugênio Teles skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 68th minute Maicon Quintal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eugênio Teles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olívio Meirelles hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Toninho Goiano in the 78th minute of play forced SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Eugênio Teles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 79 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Artur Branco. When Toninho Goiano came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the MINEIROS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Toninho Goiano couldn't finish the play. In the 85th match minute, MINEIROS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toninho Goiano to maneuver through the defense. Serginho Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Artur Branco, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Serginho Taffarel came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by SORRISO E. C.'s Júlio Faria. But to his dismay, Júlio Faria quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. MINEIROS's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
