In the 7th minute Reese Johnson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zuri Megia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Zuri Megia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reese Johnson in the 11th minute of play. A collision led to Adelaide getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Olin Durbin hit a great ball. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's attentive Augusto Dei managed to snatch the ball when Bath Tucknott made a throw-in in the 19th minute of the game. Samuel Fasey tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 22 minutes into the match, Reese Johnson notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Zuri Megia. Zuri Megia was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Reese Johnson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Zuri Megia having to make a save. 30 minutes into the match, Douglas Christian notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Zuri Megia. Zuri Megia was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 34 minutes into the match, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goal looked a bit too open when Olin Durbin came free, but Zuri Megia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zuri Megia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reese Johnson in the 35th minute of play. If Olin Durbin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Reese Johnson scored 0-3 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zuri Megia, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After the first half Adelaide were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

With a little luck, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Zuri Megia got control of the ball when Olin Durbin tried to sneak it across the goal line. When NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Reynaldo Sabin in the 56th minute got a chance for a shot 56th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Reese Johnson received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Zuri Megia came out and tried to block the shot, but Reese Johnson slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 87th minute. In the 96th minute, Reese Johnson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Adelaide fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6.
