The ball went over the crossbar instead. Everardo Arias recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 20th minute, Hermengildo Jobo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Micael Castelao was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Mugur Nisipeanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Micael Castelao having to interfere. Micael Castelao made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hermengildo Jobo in the 24th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 36 minutes, Basarab Mâinea successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Everardo Arias who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 39thth minute tested the skills of Basarab Mâinea when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Everardo Arias struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Basarab Mâinea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Real Club Celta de Vigo. Basarab Mâinea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eugenio Urbina in the 42nd minute of the match.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eugenio Urbina made a kick off. Everardo Arias struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Basarab Mâinea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Real Club Celta de Vigo. In the 63rd minute, Eugenio Urbina got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Basarab Mâinea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Everardo Arias in the 66th minute of play. Real Club Celta de Vigo's Eugenio Urbina got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Real Club Celta de Vigo booed when UFC STEAUA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florin Arsenescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Basarab Mâinea didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eugenio Urbina went, in the 73rd minute, to the upper right corner, 5-1 was the resulting score. Everardo Arias received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Basarab Mâinea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 81 minutes into the match, Everardo Arias had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Basarab Mâinea. UFC STEAUA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Everardo Arias was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-1. 87 minutes into the game, Demetrio Di Franco cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-2. Micael Castelao was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 90th minute the ball was on its way in behind Real Club Celta de Vigo's goalkeeper Micael Castelao, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The Real Club Celta de Vigo support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
