A collision led to CSKA getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Grigor Karamanchev hit a great ball. A hard shot by Albert Uncheşelu from long distance, 11 minutes into the match, got Edwin van der Saar's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 13th match minute, CSKA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vute Bisharov to maneuver through the defense. When PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN's Panait Tătaru in the 14th minute got a chance for a shot 14th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CSKA's goalie prevented a goal. After a rather tough play, CSKA's Vute Bisharov got a free kick in the 21st minute. Cosmin Roşu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stoyko Bikov in the 26th minute of play. If Stoyko Bikov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN booed when CSKA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ignat Kabaivanov didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 33rd minute of the match Sabin Cosâmbescu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Edwin van der Saar skillfully saved the ball. In the 34th match minute, PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sabin Cosâmbescu to maneuver through the defense. After 36 minutes, Panait Tătaru mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN and the CSKA players grew even worse after the yellow card. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

A collision led to PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Sabin Cosâmbescu hit a great ball. Edwin van der Saar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stelian Sinulescu in the 58th minute of play. Robert Cângea kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Edwin van der Saar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Panait Tătaru, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Ignat Kabaivanov kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cosmin Roşu. That made the score 0-1 in the 69 minute of play. Ignat Kabaivanov recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 73 minutes into the match, Arso Angelinov had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cosmin Roşu. PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Arso Angelinov was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. In the 78th minute Panait Tătaru shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edwin van der Saar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 84th minute, Minko Veznev hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 85 minutes, Panait Tătaru managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN's supporters crossed their fingers, but Panait Tătaru was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. CSKA's Edwin van der Saar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sabin Cosâmbescu in the 88th minute of play. Cosmin Roşu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bilyan Groshkov, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Bilyan Groshkov hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Edwin van der Saar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tudor Otopeanu in the 96th minute of play. CSKA's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
