After some careless play in the YR Mechelen defense, Hector Gizon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roni Van Hoyveldt. The YR Mechelen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roni Van Hoyveldt should have stopped the shot. YR Mechelen's Roni Van Hoyveldt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hector Gizon in the 7th minute of play. After a rather tough play, YR Mechelen's Corneel Van Mechelen got a free kick in the 19th minute. In the 20th minute, Hector Gizon left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Roni Van Hoyveldt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hector Gizon in the 25th minute of play. YR Mechelen's Roni Van Hoyveldt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hector Gizon in the 26th minute of play. When Arno Lauwers fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored YR Mechelen's protests and gave Arno Lauwers a yellow card for diving instead. It was a penalty for CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE! When the match had been going on for 30 minutes, YR Mechelen's Maurice Van Mechelen got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Hector Jakes. Roni Van Hoyveldt came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's Paulo Bittor. But to his dismay, Paulo Bittor quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. After 44 minutes, Paulo Bittor made it 1-4 with a short kick to the right side. YR Mechelen's Roni Van Hoyveldt tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-5 lead.

Hector Gizon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 56 minutes into the match, CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Leo Van Mechelen came free, but Hector Jakes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leo Van Mechelen in the 58th minute of play forced CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's goalkeeper Hector Jakes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Benoit Clinckspoor during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, YR Mechelen's Benoit Clinckspoor got a free kick in the 62nd minute. CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's Hector Jakes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leo Van Mechelen in the 65th minute of play. After having played for 67 minutes, Paulo Bittor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo Bittor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 68 minutes into the game, Hector Gizon cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-6. Roni Van Hoyveldt was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo Bittor in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roni Van Hoyveldt prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ricky Tilemans's late challenge caught a CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ricky Tilemans helped the player get up and apologised. Ricky Tilemans kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. 76 minutes into the match, Leo Van Mechelen notched a goal, 2-6, to the right of CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's Hector Jakes. Hector Jakes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 80 minutes into the match, Carolo Austin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Roni Van Hoyveldt. YR Mechelen's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carolo Austin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-7. 83 minutes into the game, Arnauld Van Eynde cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-7. Hector Jakes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Paulo Bittor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 93 minutes, Paulo Bittor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo Bittor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 97 minutes of play YR Mechelen's Benoit Clinckspoor was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The YR Mechelen fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
