In the 5th minute, Doru Băcioiu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 8 played minutes Balavanis got a freekick which was hit by Costică Ghișerel. Juan Chabier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Irinel Vărzaru having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, ACF Fiorentina's goal looked a bit too open when Augustin Manole came free, but Maximo Gasteiz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute Marin Gavrilă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Maximo Gasteiz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 19th minute, Gabriel Tatomir hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Augustin Manole took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Maximo Gasteiz. Maximo Gasteiz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Maximo Gasteiz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augustin Manole in the 26th minute of the match. 27 minutes into the match, ACF Fiorentina's goal looked a bit too open when Cristinel Tapalagă came free, but Maximo Gasteiz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Balavanis defense, Ariel Chale kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Irinel Vărzaru. The Balavanis fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Irinel Vărzaru should have stopped the shot. ACF Fiorentina's Maximo Gasteiz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save ACF Fiorentina from getting a goal against them. When Bernabe Cordera fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ACF Fiorentina's protests and gave Bernabe Cordera a yellow card for diving instead. After 39 played minutes ACF Fiorentina got a freekick which was hit by Bernabe Cordera. In the 44th minute, Balavanis's Marin Gavrilă dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

In the 55th match minute, Balavanis was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Doru Băcioiu to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marin Gavrilă in the 64th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Maximo Gasteiz saved ACF Fiorentina from getting behind. Maximo Gasteiz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augustin Manole in the 65th minute of play. The supporters of ACF Fiorentina booed when Balavanis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horaţiu Vermeşan didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ariel Chale fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ACF Fiorentina's protests and gave Ariel Chale a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to ACF Fiorentina getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Ariel Chale hit a great ball. Augustin Manole scored 4-1 in the 88th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Maximo Gasteiz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. ACF Fiorentina's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
