Claus Himschoot made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 33rdth minute of the game Thierry Henry who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Otelul Darmanesti's Nae Pavel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 35th minute, Sorin Bogatu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Claus Himschoot showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dennis Berardinelli, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. After some careless play in the Otelul Darmanesti defense, Thierry Henry kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nae Pavel. The Otelul Darmanesti fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nae Pavel should have stopped the shot. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.
