The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jannes Van Leempoel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Buğrahan Vecih, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Talenti Roma Calcio were awarded a corner in the 4th minute after Genk's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Celso Bibiano took the corner. The corner ended in Buğrahan Vecih almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel did a great save. Celso Bibiano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Christophe Rau came out of the goal in the 9th minute to try and stop a shot by Genk's Suat Kaya. But to his dismay, Suat Kaya quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 14 minutes into the match, Talenti Roma Calcio's goalkeeper Christophe Rau had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Suat Kaya. When Talenti Roma Calcio's Buğrahan Vecih in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Genk's goalie prevented a goal. Genk's 邵泉林 was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Christophe Rau in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aldo Ianni in the 28th minute of play. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Buğrahan Vecih, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. In the 32nd minute Aldo Ianni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Genk defense, Celso Bibiano kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jannes Van Leempoel. The Genk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jannes Van Leempoel should have stopped the shot. Suat Kaya charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Suat Kaya the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Buğrahan Vecih in the 44th minute of play. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aldo Ianni, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. In the 48th minute Buğrahan Vecih shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Buğrahan Vecih made a kick off. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Genk from getting a goal against them. In the 55th match minute, Talenti Roma Calcio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celso Bibiano to maneuver through the defense. After 59 minutes, Buğrahan Vecih made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Alfons Rijniers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 邵泉林 kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. 72 minutes into the match, Talenti Roma Calcio's goal looked a bit too open when Rain De Hond came free, but Christophe Rau reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 73 minutes had been played when some careless play by Talenti Roma Calcio's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. 邵泉林 was slow to take the kick. During this time Genk's players had a chance to rest. Vergil Rupov struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Christophe Rau didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Genk. The audience was convinced that Rain De Hond's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Christophe Rau was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. Through an outstanding action, after 86 minutes, Jannes Van Leempoel successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Buğrahan Vecih in the 87th minute of play forced Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jannes Van Leempoel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Celso Bibiano's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. After 96 played minutes Talenti Roma Calcio got a freekick which was hit by Zdzislaw Gierlach. The supporters of Genk booed when Talenti Roma Calcio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zdzislaw Gierlach didn't get a good kick on the ball.
