After 13 minutes, Cezar Jitaru mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Buzău and the -BZF- Valea Buzăului players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Buzău's Cezar Jitaru got a free kick in the 13th minute. Emanuel Cernat recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Rui Costa fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored -BZF- Valea Buzăului's protests and gave Rui Costa a yellow card for diving instead. In the 26th minute, Rui Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 28 minutes into the match, -BZF- Valea Buzăului's goal looked a bit too open when Ion Şimonca came free, but Damian Macovei reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mădălin Cârnațiu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andriy Shevcenko in the 29th minute of play. 30 minutes into the game, Cătălin Rogozea was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Buzău's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave -BZF- Valea Buzăului the free kick. In the 30th match minute, FC Buzău was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cătălin Rogozea to maneuver through the defense. Mădălin Cârnațiu came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by -BZF- Valea Buzăului's Rui Costa. But to his dismay, Rui Costa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Rui Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Mădălin Cârnațiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Andriy Shevcenko could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Mădălin Cârnațiu made a huge save. FC Buzău's Mădălin Cârnațiu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iulian Cozaru in the 45th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Ion Şimonca made the kick off in the second half. Mădălin Cârnațiu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Iulian Cozaru in the 55th minute of the match. The referee felt a red card was in order, 58 minutes into the game, when Aron Tilea put in a rough tackle. A collision led to -BZF- Valea Buzăului getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Mădălin Cârnațiu came out of the goal and Iulian Cozaru tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Andriy Shevcenko in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mădălin Cârnațiu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Mădălin Cârnațiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andriy Shevcenko, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 71 minutes into the match, -BZF- Valea Buzăului's goal looked a bit too open when Ion Şimonca came free, but Damian Macovei reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Damian Macovei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ion Şimonca in the 71st minute of the match. The supporters of FC Buzău booed when -BZF- Valea Buzăului was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Iulian Cozaru didn't get a good kick on the ball. -BZF- Valea Buzăului's Codruț Molodețiu was substituted for Pipo Inzaghi. In the 72nd minute, Iulian Cozaru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andriy Shevcenko in the 82nd minute of play forced FC Buzău's goalkeeper Mădălin Cârnațiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pompiliu Gorcea was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 86 minutes into the match. In the 86th minute, one of FC Buzău:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC Buzău. Mădălin Cârnațiu had in the 87thth minute some difficulties stopping Andriy Shevcenko's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 89 minutes into the match, FC Buzău's goal looked a bit too open when Andriy Shevcenko came free, but Mădălin Cârnațiu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. -BZF- Valea Buzăului's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
