Teofilo Salomon scored 1-0 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Phil Porter, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute Olimpiu Dragnea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stelios Kopanaras saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Düsseldorf FC booed when Goo Goo Dolls was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Olimpiu Dragnea didn't get a good kick on the ball.
