An unexpectedly hard shot by Xandro Zubillaga in the 9th minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Olger Azofeifa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Xurde Buiza charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Xurde Buiza the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 17 played minutes U21 Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Frascuelo Albarellos. 20 minutes into the match, Ximun Zaldos dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Olger Azofeifa, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kerry Flöter in the 24th minute of play forced U21 Venezuela's goalkeeper Dorio Laje to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dorio Laje showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paul Fonseca in the 27th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Roger Bannister kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Olger Azofeifa. That made the score 2-0 in the 28 minute of play. Olger Azofeifa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ximun Zaldos in the 31st minute of play. Dorio Laje showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorge Padilla in the 32nd minute of the match. Dorio Laje showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paul Fonseca, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 39 minutes into the game, U21 Venezuela's Roger Bannister nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Olger Azofeifa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jorge Padilla to strike the kick off in the second half. Olger Azofeifa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. U21 Costa Rica made a substitution. Mainor Calderon replaced Kerry Flöter. With his leg Dorio Laje managed to avoid a goal in the 81stth minute, when U21 Costa Rica's Mainor Calderon fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 84th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eladio Elizondo to maneuver through the defense. U21 Costa Rica's Olger Azofeifa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lucio Oquendo in the 90th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Roberto Pato in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Olger Azofeifa saved U21 Costa Rica from getting behind. Olger Azofeifa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lucio Oquendo went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-1 was the resulting score. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. U21 Venezuela had played much better football throughout.
