Valencia C.F.'s Jerry Lodge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gunter Waller in the 8th minute of play. After some careless play in the Valencia C.F. defense, Gunter Waller kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jerry Lodge. The Valencia C.F. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jerry Lodge should have stopped the shot. Rune Jarstein made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joe Herring in the 15th minute of play. Jerry Lodge made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zé Paulo da Silva in the 18th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gunter Waller made a kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Zé Paulo da Silva came free, but Jerry Lodge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jerry Lodge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gunter Waller, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 59th minute, Joe Herring fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Rune Jarstein, passed just outside the right post. 61 minutes into the match, Zé Paulo da Silva notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Valencia C.F.'s Jerry Lodge. Jerry Lodge was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Joe Herring managed to get in a good position for a shot. Valencia C.F.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Joe Herring was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rune Jarstein breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee ignored Valencia C.F.'s protests and gave Joe Herring a yellow card for diving instead. In the 87th match minute, Valencia C.F. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joe Herring to maneuver through the defense. In the 91st minute Wilhelm Nienhaus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerry Lodge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee ended the match the Hertha 1969 players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
