In the 15th minute Eugenio Zarrella shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Randolf Achen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mikel Jerzinger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Randolf Achen made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eugenio Zarrella in the 19th minute of play forced Espen Steelers's goalkeeper Randolf Achen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mikel Jerzinger hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Espen Steelers's Randolf Achen got control of the ball when Fedor Adler tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mikel Jerzinger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Randolf Achen made a huge save. Godo Gøl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fidel Rohner in the 28th minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, FC Lugano's Stephen Vicente sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Randolf Achen narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 35th match minute, Espen Steelers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fidel Rohner to maneuver through the defense. When Stephen Vicente fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Lugano's protests and gave Stephen Vicente a yellow card for diving instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Eugenio Zarrella in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Randolf Achen saved Espen Steelers from getting behind. A hard shot 46 in the game by Mikel Jerzinger from a close distance when the talented Randolf Achen managed to make a qualified save. Espen Steelers's players were relieved. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

With a little luck, FC Lugano's Godo Gøl got control of the ball when Claus Buccino tried to sneak it across the goal line. 61 minutes into the match, Espen Steelers's goal looked a bit too open when Eugenio Zarrella came free, but Randolf Achen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FC Lugano's Mikel Jerzinger got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Espen Steelers's Flavian Fäh was substituted for Miro Willi. In the 67th minute, Mikel Jerzinger got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. FC Lugano made a substitution. Ulric Donsante replaced Fedor Adler. If Eugenio Zarrella had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Randolf Achen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eugenio Zarrella, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 72 minutes, Eugenio Zarrella made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Espen Steelers's Randolf Achen tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of FC Lugano booed when Espen Steelers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Raphael Aregger didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fréderic Huerlimann blasted a shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Randolf Achen having to make a save. Godo Gøl made an important save on a dangerous shot by Claus Buccino in the 87th minute. Godo Gøl showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fidel Rohner in the 91st minute of the match. FC Lugano's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
