Vitório Lago took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Branislav Velchevski. The referee ignored Palestra do Interior's protests and gave Celsinho Vidal a yellow card for diving instead. In the 36th minute, Celsinho Vidal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 37th minute, Miguel Prosperi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bruninho Vaz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Prosperi in the 37th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Elpidio Francis might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bruninho Vaz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Elpidio Francis ran back to his position shaking his head.
