The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Segundo Ixona, 4 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Dante Fernendo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zygmunt Wrzosek in the 5th minute of play. Zygmunt Wrzosek scored 1-0 in the 6th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dante Fernendo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 13 minutes into the game, Zygmunt Wrzosek recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Dante Fernendo. Zygmunt Wrzosek showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. In the 16thth minute of the game Denis Bonadona who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Söderhall's Svante Stenqvist was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 17th minute after Söderhall's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Saturnino Curcio took the corner. After taking down the ball on Sporting de Gijón's corner Saturnino Curcio fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Svante Stenqvist quite easily take care of the ball. 18 minutes into the game, one of Söderhall:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Zygmunt Wrzosek hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. After 23 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Niceto Dominix. Clas Nørstrup came free with the goalkeeper in the 24th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dante Fernendo could save by the left post. When Sporting de Gijón's Ademar Rocha in the 28th minute got a chance for a shot 28th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Söderhall's goalie prevented a goal. Svante Stenqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ademar Rocha in the 30th minute of play. After some careless play in the Söderhall defense, Denis Bonadona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Svante Stenqvist. The Söderhall fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Svante Stenqvist should have stopped the shot. Ademar Rocha took the ball and in the 48 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Svante Stenqvist. Svante Stenqvist dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 2-3 lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Clas Nørstrup was the one to do the kick off. 56 minutes into the match, Söderhall's goalkeeper Svante Stenqvist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ademar Rocha. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 57th minute after Söderhall's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Saturnino Curcio took the corner. Söderhall's Svante Stenqvist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Söderhall from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Saturnino Curcio in the 61st minute of play forced Söderhall's goalkeeper Svante Stenqvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 64th minute, Matias Bilintx reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Svante Stenqvist. The goal made the score 2-4. 66 minutes into the match, Söderhall's goal looked a bit too open when Saturnino Curcio came free, but Svante Stenqvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diego Maradona got free with Svante Stenqvist in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Söderhall booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rune Fanström didn't get a good kick on the ball. Söderhall made a substitution. Michael Nordgren replaced Clas Nørstrup. Sporting de Gijón's Alejandro Rufo was substituted for Saturnino Curcio. Söderhall's Sven-Åke Alebeck was substituted for Zygmunt Wrzosek. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Venancio Emesto replaced Denis Bonadona. With his leg Svante Stenqvist managed to avoid a goal in the 82ndth minute, when Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Svante Stenqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Febri Sarumpaet in the 85th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Matias Bilintx in the 93rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Svante Stenqvist prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Svante Stenqvist made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Matias Bilintx sent off a good shot on target. Dante Fernendo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michael Nordgren, who was totally free with the ball in the 97th minute.
