Ştefan Iovan hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. The supporters of Hungary booed when Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mihnea Stanca didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hungary's goalkeeper Ferenc Tököli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 20th match minute, Romania was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mihnea Stanca to maneuver through the defense. Hungary's Tivadar Demeter got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Manuel Isăilă in the 29th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ferenc Tököli prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tivadar Demeter could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Dorel Bolborici made a huge save. In the 37th minute, Manuel Isăilă got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Romania's attentive Gigi Joanță managed to snatch the ball when Áron Bódog made a throw-in in the 42nd minute of the game. The supporters of Hungary booed when Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filip Aanicăi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hungary's Mátyás Zakariás got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The wind increased when Manuel Isăilă made the kick off in the second half. Dorel Bolborici showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lajos Szatmári in the 50th minute of the match. Hungary were awarded a corner in the 52th minute after Romania's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mátyás Zakariás took the corner. The corner led Hungary's Zsolt Székely to fire away a dangerous shot which Dorel Bolborici despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The audience was convinced that Tivadar Demeter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dorel Bolborici was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. In the 65th minute Tivadar Demeter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dorel Bolborici saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Romania made a substitution.
