An unexpectedly hard shot by Gheorghe Basarab in the 6th minute of play forced Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Bengt-Åke Lövskog to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fredrik Abrahamsson's late challenge caught a Balavanis's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fredrik Abrahamsson helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Fredrik Abrahamsson got a free kick in the 7th minute. When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Marin Gavrilă took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Bengt-Åke Lövskog to make any attempt to save it. When Gheorghe Basarab came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Balavanis fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gheorghe Basarab couldn't finish the play. After 21 played minutes Étoile Sportive Du Sahel got a freekick which was hit by Robert Jönsson. The supporters of Étoile Sportive Du Sahel booed when Balavanis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marin Gavrilă didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Gheorghe Basarab had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 36 in the game by Toader Arotăriței from a close distance when the talented Bengt-Åke Lövskog managed to make a qualified save. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's players were relieved. The supporters of Étoile Sportive Du Sahel booed when Balavanis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toader Arotăriței didn't get a good kick on the ball. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Bengt-Åke Lövskog proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Étoile Sportive Du Sahel from getting a goal against them. Mark Biörling hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. 47 minutes into the match, Gheorghe Basarab had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bengt-Åke Lövskog. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gheorghe Basarab was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Toader Arotăriței was the one to do the kick off. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Bengt-Åke Lövskog played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gigi Văcăroiu in the 55th minute of play. Bengt-Åke Lövskog took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Costică Ghișerel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bengt-Åke Lövskog came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Balavanis's Gheorghe Basarab. But to his dismay, Gheorghe Basarab quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Bengt-Åke Lövskog showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marin Gavrilă, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Gheorghe Basarab took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bengt-Åke Lövskog. Bengt-Åke Lövskog dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. In the 83rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Bengt-Åke Lövskog, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 87 played minutes Étoile Sportive Du Sahel got a freekick which was hit by Brahim Charradi. Bengt-Åke Lövskog showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toader Arotăriței in the 88th minute of the match. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Bengt-Åke Lövskog played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toader Arotăriței in the 92nd minute of play. After 96 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Balavanis! Torbjörn Högberg shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Balavanis's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
