Serginho Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 21 minutes into the match, MINEIROS's goal looked a bit too open when Fausto Cardozo came free, but Serginho Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Serginho Taffarel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gilmar Paraense went, in the 23rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in MINEIROS's zone, Ademir Vander stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Serginho Taffarel came out of the goal and Ademir Vander tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Silvinho Brodel during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to MINEIROS getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Silvinho Brodel hit a great ball. MINEIROS's Serginho Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Barros in the 32nd minute of play. In the 34th minute of the match Alexsandro Tepedino sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Serginho Taffarel skillfully saved the ball. A collision led to MINEIROS getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. João Paraíba hit a great ball. Cafu Pimenta took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Serginho Taffarel. Serginho Taffarel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilmar Paraense in the 46th minute of play forced MINEIROS's goalkeeper Serginho Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fernando Barros to make the kick off. In the 51st minute Ademir Vander shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Serginho Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by MINEIROS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Alexsandro Tepedino was slow to take the kick. During this time Nabucodonosor E.C. FPRMZ's players had a chance to rest. João Vítor Linhares tried in the 53rd minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Serginho Taffarel a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 0-4. MINEIROS's Serginho Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save MINEIROS from getting a goal against them. Serginho Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cafu Pimenta in the 60th minute. In the 62nd minute Gilmar Paraense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Serginho Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, Luís Fábio Paraibano had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Serginho Taffarel. MINEIROS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luís Fábio Paraibano was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. MINEIROS's Benê Amorim was substituted for Maicon Quintal. In the 72nd match minute, Nabucodonosor E.C. FPRMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Renato Pontes to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Nabucodonosor E.C. FPRMZ booed when MINEIROS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benê Amorim didn't get a good kick on the ball. Serginho Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gilmar Paraense, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Nabucodonosor E.C. FPRMZ booed when MINEIROS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Albuquerque didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Joel Quadros fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored MINEIROS's protests and gave Joel Quadros a yellow card for diving instead. In the 84th match minute, MINEIROS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joel Quadros to maneuver through the defense. Serginho Taffarel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ademir Vander went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-6 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the MINEIROS defense, Cafu Pimenta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Serginho Taffarel. The MINEIROS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Serginho Taffarel should have stopped the shot. After 96 played minutes Nabucodonosor E.C. FPRMZ got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Renato Pontes.
