Aquilino Zarco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lucian Militaru read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 12th minute of play. Zeferino Peixoto charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zeferino Peixoto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 17th minute, Zeferino Peixoto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Minho FC's Maurício Guerreiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dragoş Oloieru in the 18th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Aquilino Zarco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lucian Militaru was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. The supporters of Minho FC booed when Progresul Pitesti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nechifor Mărculescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reinaldo Moutinho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Lucian Militaru made a huge save. Aquilino Zarco struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Maurício Guerreiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lucian Panțuru in the 38th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Horaţiu Coșeriu during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Minho FC booed when Progresul Pitesti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horaţiu Coșeriu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aquilino Zarco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aquilino Zarco in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lucian Militaru prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Progresul Pitesti getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Nechifor Mărculescu hit a great ball. Lucian Militaru took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jordão Figueiredo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 63rd minute Horia Caranică shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Maurício Guerreiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 64th minute, Horia Caranică left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Progresul Pitesti fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Minho FC's Reinaldo Moutinho was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Lucian Militaru in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. If Lucian Panțuru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
