Spectators: 165 (Terracing: 124, Seating: 38, VIP seats: 3) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. When Ovidio Etxekopar came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Elderslie Magpies fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ovidio Etxekopar couldn't finish the play. Elderslie Magpies's Christian Kerville played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gildo Fantini in the 9th minute of play. In the 13th minute, Steven Chaptal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rui Varela was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Rick Souness blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rui Varela having to make a save. Steven Chaptal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Rui Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Elderslie Magpies's Rick Souness got a free kick in the 23rd minute. 25 minutes into the match, Elderslie Magpies's goal looked a bit too open when Ted Hoogenkamp came free, but Christian Kerville reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Christian Kerville didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Grêmio's Gildo Fantini shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-1 in the ordered_time% minute. A collision led to Elderslie Magpies getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Kenneth Aukes hit a great ball. When Steven Chaptal came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Elderslie Magpies fans jumped to their feet. After 34 played minutes Grêmio got a freekick which was hit by Valdir de Alcântara. Rui Varela stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Steven Chaptal's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Rui Varela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Steven Chaptal, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Rui Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cipriano Gilabert in the 42nd minute of the match. 44 minutes into the game, Cipriano Gilabert recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Rui Varela. Cipriano Gilabert showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-1. If Acácio de Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Steven Chaptal was the one to do the kick off. Christian Kerville made a fantastic save in the 51st minute, when Ted Hoogenkamp sent off a good shot on target. In the 52nd minute, Valdir de Alcântara left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. Elderslie Magpies's Christian Kerville proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save Elderslie Magpies from getting a goal against them. Grêmio's Rui Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cipriano Gilabert in the 57th minute of play. A hard shot 59 in the game by Gildo Fantini from a close distance when the talented Christian Kerville managed to make a qualified save. Elderslie Magpies's players were relieved. 60 minutes into the match, Steven Chaptal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rui Varela. Grêmio's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Steven Chaptal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. The supporters of Grêmio booed when Elderslie Magpies was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Baxter Matthes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Elderslie Magpies's Neal Weatherby was substituted for Ovidio Etxekopar. After a rather tough play, Grêmio's Gildo Fantini got a free kick in the 67th minute. Christian Kerville made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Gildo Fantini sent off a good shot on target. Rui Varela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Neal Weatherby, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Christian Kerville made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Ted Hoogenkamp sent off a good shot on target. In the 77th minute, Cipriano Gilabert made a precise shot to the right of Rui Varela. Grêmio's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-2. After 80 minutes, Cipriano Gilabert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Elderslie Magpies and the Grêmio players grew even worse after the yellow card. If Steven Chaptal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Neal Weatherby received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Rui Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Valdir de Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 92 played minutes Grêmio got a freekick which was hit by Valdir de Alcântara. When Elderslie Magpies's Steven Chaptal in the 97th minute got a chance for a shot 97th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Grêmio's goalie prevented a goal. Grêmio's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
