Mauricio Fernanco was out of position in the 2 minute of play, and Ulises Bitxintxo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ulises Bitxintxo really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. With a little luck, RIVER's Mauricio Fernanco got control of the ball when Ulises Bitxintxo tried to sneak it across the goal line. 8 minutes into the match, RIVER's goal looked a bit too open when Braulio Ourente came free, but Mauricio Fernanco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mauricio Fernanco came out of the goal in the 9th minute to try and stop a shot by Sarmiento de Resistencia's Bernabe George. But to his dismay, Bernabe George quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Mauricio Fernanco made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Cesar Lekubegi sent off a good shot on target. Filomeno Tirso came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by RIVER's Hernan Kelemen. But to his dismay, Hernan Kelemen quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Ulises Bitxintxo succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 3-1 in the 20th playminute. Mauricio Fernanco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ulises Bitxintxo in the 30th minute. Simon Criston's late challenge caught a RIVER's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Simon Criston helped the player get up and apologised. Simon Criston hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. RIVER's Candido Opilano got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 40 minutes into the match, Ulises Bitxintxo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Mauricio Fernanco, 4-1. Nicasio Mendebal struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Filomeno Tirso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for RIVER. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cesar Lekubegi was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd minute Braulio Ourente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauricio Fernanco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mauricio Fernanco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ulises Bitxintxo, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Mauricio Fernanco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cesar Lekubegi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ulises Bitxintxo in the 61st minute of play forced RIVER's goalkeeper Mauricio Fernanco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 62 played minutes Sarmiento de Resistencia got a freekick which was hit by Ulises Bitxintxo. Aaron Sarmiento charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aaron Sarmiento the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of RIVER booed when Sarmiento de Resistencia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aaron Sarmiento didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Sarmiento de Resistencia getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Bernabe George hit a great ball.
