Zé Carlos de Azevedo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 21st minute, Burutzagi Villate hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Zé Carlos de Azevedo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Zuriko Carriedo. That made the score 1-0 in the 25 minute of play. Zuriko Carriedo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zé Carlos de Azevedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 31 played minutes Club Atletico Nacional got a freekick which was hit by Burutzagi Villate. With an all-out effort, Independente FC's Zuriko Carriedo threw himself towards the right post 39 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Zé Carlos de Azevedo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Arixo Astoreca made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilberto Gonçalves in the 57th minute of play forced Club Atletico Nacional's goalkeeper Zuriko Carriedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Desiderio Iturmendi's late challenge caught a Independente FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Desiderio Iturmendi helped the player get up and apologised. Desiderio Iturmendi hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match.
