After having played for 13 minutes, Dante Jakob managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hertha 1969's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dante Jakob was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Moneyball getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Alojz Remeš hit a great ball. In the 16th minute of the match Jörn Achleitner sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Miroslav Kubálek skillfully saved the ball. When Albrecht Dziub fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hertha 1969's protests and gave Albrecht Dziub a yellow card for diving instead. After 16 played minutes Hertha 1969 got a freekick which was hit by Albrecht Dziub. Sascha Meinhardt struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Miroslav Kubálek didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hertha 1969. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sascha Meinhardt got free with Miroslav Kubálek in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In a very dangerous position, a player in Moneyball fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 37th minute. Penalty! Dante Jakob scored 1-0 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Miroslav Kubálek, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 41st minute, Dante Jakob left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hertha 1969 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0.

The referee gave Michael Simpson a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game.
