The YR Mechelen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roni Van Hoyveldt should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Göran Ingemarsson in the 9th minute of play forced YR Mechelen's goalkeeper Roni Van Hoyveldt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arnauld Van Eynde in the 20th minute of play forced AC Superstar's goalkeeper Charles Johansson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to YR Mechelen getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Leo Van Mechelen hit a great ball. Roni Van Hoyveldt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sture Ström in the 26th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vidar Spetz in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roni Van Hoyveldt saved YR Mechelen from getting behind. In the 46th minute, Göran Ingemarsson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The AC Superstar fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-4.

After 51 minutes, Sven-Arne Back mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AC Superstar and the YR Mechelen players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, AC Superstar's Sven-Arne Back got a free kick in the 51st minute. Maurice Van Mechelen might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Charles Johansson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Maurice Van Mechelen ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, YR Mechelen's Roel Van Den Eijnde got a free kick in the 54th minute. After having played for 55 minutes, Göran Ingemarsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AC Superstar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Göran Ingemarsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leo Van Mechelen in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Charles Johansson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Arnauld Van Eynde fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored YR Mechelen's protests and gave Arnauld Van Eynde a yellow card for diving instead. YR Mechelen's Roni Van Hoyveldt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sture Ström in the 61st minute of play. In the 65th minute, Vidar Spetz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roni Van Hoyveldt was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-5. A collision led to YR Mechelen getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Maurice Van Mechelen hit a great ball. 76 minutes into the match, YR Mechelen's goal looked a bit too open when Sture Ström came free, but Roni Van Hoyveldt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 77 minutes of play YR Mechelen's Arnauld Van Eynde was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of AC Superstar booed when YR Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnauld Van Eynde didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, YR Mechelen's Roni Van Hoyveldt got control of the ball when Göran Ingemarsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Charles Johansson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leo Van Mechelen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Sture Ström fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AC Superstar's protests and gave Sture Ström a yellow card for diving instead. Sture Ström hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. After 89 played minutes YR Mechelen got a freekick which was hit by Leo Van Mechelen. Roni Van Hoyveldt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sture Ström in the 95th minute of play. AC Superstar played a much better game than YR Mechelen and deserved their victory. The YR Mechelen players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
