Esporte Club Bahia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Adelaide the free kick. The supporters of Esporte Club Bahia booed when Adelaide was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Belton Trenoweth didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 5th minute, Tiago Xavier sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Adelaide's Brian Brennand didn't even have to move. Adelaide's defense didn't have a chance, in the 7th minute, when Lauro Carneiro scored to the left of an out of position Brian Brennand, making the score, 1-0. 20 minutes into the game, Esporte Club Bahia's Betão Aparecido nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Brian Brennand made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. Belton Trenoweth kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Tiago Xavier was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 26th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 28th minute Christian Boylin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jefferson Prado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lauro Carneiro in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Brian Brennand prevented the ball from getting in the gole. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lauro Carneiro made a kick off. Lauro Carneiro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brian Brennand read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. Esporte Club Bahia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lauro Carneiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Wieslaw Petka hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. After 61 played minutes Adelaide got a freekick which was hit by Alberto Hickman. After 63 minutes, Christian Boylin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Adelaide and the Esporte Club Bahia players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Adelaide's zone, Betão Aparecido stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brian Brennand came out of the goal and Betão Aparecido tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 67th match minute, Adelaide was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edward Schultz to maneuver through the defense. In the 72nd minute, Christian Boylin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 74thth minute of the game Betão Aparecido who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Adelaide's Brian Brennand was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Adelaide fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 76th minute. Penalty! In the 77th minute there was a penalty for Esporte Club Bahia. Lauro Carneiro stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Brian Brennand. 7-1. Lauro Carneiro struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Brian Brennand didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Esporte Club Bahia. Esporte Club Bahia's Jean Sampaio was substituted for Paulo Trancoso. Esporte Club Bahia's Luiz Gustavo Paes was substituted for Lauro Carneiro. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind Adelaide's goalkeeper Brian Brennand, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 91st minute, Luiz Gustavo Paes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Brian Brennand was frozen by the shot and now it was 8-1.
