In the 2nd minute Olavo Matorin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bruno Renan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The corner led to Montevideo's Zeca de Alcântara getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Laerte Lucas's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Bruno Renan firmly grabbed it by the left post. Laerte Lucas received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Bruno Renan came out and tried to block the shot, but Laerte Lucas slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 24th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Betão dos Santos in the 31st minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
