The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Csaba Tisza managed to get in a good position for a shot. Serginho Azevedo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 24 minutes into the match, Hungarian Olympic's Csaba Tisza sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Serginho Azevedo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If János Fazekas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Serginho Azevedo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Csaba Tisza's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. In the 30th minute, Csaba Tisza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Flamengo FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. After the first half Hungarian Olympic were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Flórián Dobó could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Serginho Azevedo made a huge save.
