Fortunato Pinuer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Fortunato Pinuer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Didier Van Gorp in the 15th minute. Capo de Provincia's defense didn't have a chance, in the 15th minute, when Didier Van Gorp scored to the left of an out of position Fortunato Pinuer, making the score, 2-1. In the 19th minute, Genk's Fredrik Creemers dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-1. When the match clock showed 22 minutes, the score became 3-2 when Efraín Soler sped through Genk's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Wilfried Boumans. In the 26th minute, Pedro Hernández hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 28th match minute, Capo de Provincia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeronimo Avaria to maneuver through the defense. Wilfried Boumans made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jeronimo Avaria in the 31st minute of play. After a rather tough play, Genk's Gregorie Allaert got a free kick in the 31st minute. Fortunato Pinuer was out of position in the 38 minute of play, and Didier Van Gorp capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Didier Van Gorp really showed his touch with that goal: 4-2. Wilfried Boumans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jeronimo Avaria, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Fredrik Creemers managed to get in a good position for a shot. Genk's supporters rose to their feet, but Fredrik Creemers was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fortunato Pinuer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Capo de Provincia's Alexis Byers got a free kick in the 45th minute. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Fredrik Creemers took a quick shot and it went in 5-2 without a chance for Fortunato Pinuer to make any attempt to save it. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-2 at half-time.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Didier Van Gorp was the one to do the kick off. When Jeronimo Avaria came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Capo de Provincia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jeronimo Avaria couldn't finish the play. After having played for 56 minutes, Jeronimo Avaria managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Capo de Provincia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jeronimo Avaria was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 57 minutes into the game, Genk's Fredrik Creemers nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fortunato Pinuer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-2. Efraín Soler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilfried Boumans having to interfere. Capo de Provincia made a substitution. Osvaldo Sánchez replaced Aldo Casos. The supporters of Capo de Provincia booed when Genk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matt Camps didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilfried Boumans didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Osvaldo Sánchez went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-3 was the resulting score. In the 70th minute, Didier Van Gorp ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fortunato Pinuer was frozen by the shot and now it was 7-3. If Efraín Soler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilfried Boumans made a fantastic save in the 81st minute, when Osvaldo Sánchez sent off a good shot on target. Genk's Wilfried Boumans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jeronimo Avaria in the 88th minute of play. 92 minutes into the match, Capo de Provincia's goal looked a bit too open when Fredrik Creemers came free, but Fortunato Pinuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 93 minutes of play, Capo de Provincia's Pedro Hernández made it 7-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilfried Boumans was left in no man's land by his defense there! Genk's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
