Roger Seco made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 6th match minute, Fire Devils was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dave Saenger to maneuver through the defense. Roger Seco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francis Aberle in the 8th minute of play. Loris Hellmüller made an important save on a dangerous shot by Osvaldo Santana in the 15th minute. After 16 minutes of play, Fire Devils's Francis Aberle made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Roger Seco was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Francis Aberle in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roger Seco saved Grêmio from getting behind. Osvaldo Santana kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Roger Seco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francis Aberle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 31st minute, Franco Verdon ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roger Seco was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. The supporters of Fire Devils booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ezequiel Capixaba didn't get a good kick on the ball. Roger Seco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francis Aberle in the 38th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Franco Verdon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fire Devils's supporters rose to their feet, but Franco Verdon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roger Seco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 41 played minutes Grêmio got a freekick which was hit by Osvaldinho Marquez. In the 45th minute, Osvaldinho Marquez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 46th minute of the match Claus Huwyler shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Roger Seco showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Denis Lambrozzi fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fire Devils's protests and gave Denis Lambrozzi a yellow card for diving instead. Denis Lambrozzi kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Osvaldo Santana to strike the kick off in the second half. Grêmio's Roger Seco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francis Aberle in the 62nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Fire Devils's Dave Saenger got a free kick in the 64th minute. In the 75thth minute of the game Francis Aberle who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grêmio's Roger Seco was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Grêmio's Roger Seco proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Grêmio from getting a goal against them. With an all-out effort, Fire Devils's Roger Seco threw himself towards the right post 81 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Francis Aberle, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Grêmio's goalie and right to Denis Lambrozzi. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Grêmio's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 88th minute, Fire Devils's Alxavier Brütsch dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-5. Ezequiel Capixaba kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match.
