After a defensive mix-up in Pombal 2003 F.C.'s zone, Ladio Sabuco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilson Arósio came out of the goal and Ladio Sabuco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rodolfo de Carvalho received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Tercero Arriete came out and tried to block the shot, but Rodolfo de Carvalho slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 26th minute. Real Medellín's Tercero Arriete played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leonel Andrade in the 31st minute of play. Tercero Arriete made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leonel Andrade in the 34th minute of play. After some careless play in the Real Medellín defense, Marcelinho Abraão kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tercero Arriete. The Real Medellín fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tercero Arriete should have stopped the shot.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half.
