The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gregory Pegrum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dean Quinnell in the 14th minute of play. 18 minutes into the match, Manly FC's goal looked a bit too open when Adam James came free, but Gregory Pegrum reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 20 minutes Manly FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Russ Weatherby who took care of the corner kick. Flying Hellfish's Russ Weatherby was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gregory Pegrum in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 23rd minute, Flying Hellfish's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Bruno Mosley fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Carlos Deeth charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Deeth the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 25 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Flying Hellfish! Flying Hellfish's Caine Tucknott played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chuck Claringbold in the 31st minute of play. Gregory Pegrum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Otto Dillon in the 34th minute of play. Gregory Pegrum stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dean Quinnell's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. After 35 minutes Manly FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Russ Weatherby who took care of the corner kick. Flying Hellfish's Barney Paddle was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gregory Pegrum in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 36 minutes into the game, Barney Paddle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Gregory Pegrum was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, Flying Hellfish's Bradshaw Dollimore got a free kick in the 39th minute. A hard shot 41 in the game by Chuck Claringbold from a close distance when the talented Caine Tucknott managed to make a qualified save. Flying Hellfish's players were relieved. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Caine Tucknott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edwardo Marsland, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Mac Allister hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Chuck Claringbold sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edmonds Magnay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gregory Pegrum having to interfere. Chuck Claringbold struck a weak shot in the 68th minute. Caine Tucknott didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manly FC. Craig Johnston scored 1-1 in the 70th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Caine Tucknott, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience was convinced that Chuck Claringbold's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Caine Tucknott was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Bradshaw Dollimore charged in rather forcefully in the 82nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bradshaw Dollimore the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Bradshaw Dollimore kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edwardo Marsland couldn't finish the play.
