Atlético Capixaba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SAO JOANENSE FC the free kick. A collision led to Atlético Capixaba getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Bebeto Valladares hit a great ball. The supporters of Atlético Capixaba booed when SAO JOANENSE FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Augusto Messias didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 6th minute of the match, Dário Leme tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Fernandão Linares saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 10th match minute, Atlético Capixaba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco Dionísio to maneuver through the defense. In the 13th minute, SAO JOANENSE FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Dalmo Saraiva fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Fernandão Linares came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Atlético Capixaba's Henrique Alvarenga. But to his dismay, Henrique Alvarenga quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 19 minutes into the match, Kléber Figueiredo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fernandão Linares. SAO JOANENSE FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kléber Figueiredo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. The crowd rose to their feet as Dário Leme kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Fernandão Linares. That made the score 3-0 in the 22 minute of play. Fernandão Linares came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Atlético Capixaba's Thomás Galvão. But to his dismay, Thomás Galvão quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. 30 minutes into the match, Dário Leme dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fernandão Linares, 5-0. The supporters of Atlético Capixaba booed when SAO JOANENSE FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Rossi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Henrique Alvarenga kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Atlético Capixaba defense, Cássio Mangueira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fernandinho França. The Atlético Capixaba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fernandinho França should have stopped the shot. In the 46th minute, Atlético Capixaba's Dário Leme dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 6-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 6-1 at half-time.

For all the effort they put into the match, the SAO JOANENSE FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Atlético Capixaba.
