The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Winksele 2016 getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. When the match clock showed 13 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Claude Van Dijck sped through Stade Ygossais's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Valérien Jouglet. Corneel Taverniers hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. 17 minutes into the match, Winksele 2016's goalkeeper Sem Severens had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hector Jacquier. Sem Severens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cédric Louison, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 27th minute, Jan-Simon Van Hemel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Claude Van Dijck in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valérien Jouglet prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Valérien Jouglet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claude Van Dijck in the 39th minute of play. Corneel Taverniers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 44th minute Claude Van Dijck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valérien Jouglet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Claude Van Dijck blasted a shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Valérien Jouglet having to make a save.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Claude Van Dijck made a kick off. Valérien Jouglet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Corneel Taverniers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Claude Van Dijck's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Valérien Jouglet was relentless in the 69th minute of the game.
