In the 17th minute, SK Gullegem's Theo de Pelsmakere seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Theo de Pelsmakere the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of SK Gullegem protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Theo de Pelsmakere had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in SK Gullegem fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 17th minute. Penalty! The supporters of SK Gullegem booed when Real Cruzeiro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Júlio Arruda didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgar da Costa in the 34th minute of play forced SK Gullegem's goalkeeper Stefaan Van Hoyveldt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. SK Gullegem's Albertus Reijdams got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 37th minute, Fabiano Carneiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Júlio Arruda's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Stefaan Van Hoyveldt read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. 46 minutes into the match, SK Gullegem's goal looked a bit too open when Fabiano Carneiro came free, but Stefaan Van Hoyveldt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Stefaan Van Hoyveldt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severino da Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
The wind increased when Severino da Costa made the kick off in the second half. Stefaan Van Hoyveldt made an important save on a dangerous shot by Severino da Costa in the 52nd minute. After 56 minutes of play, Real Cruzeiro FC's Edgar da Costa made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Stefaan Van Hoyveldt was left in no man's land by his defense there! SK Gullegem's Stefaan Van Hoyveldt proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save SK Gullegem from getting a goal against them. After 61 played minutes SK Gullegem got a freekick which was hit by Frederic Hollandts. After 63 played minutes, Real Cruzeiro FC's Tales Batista shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Stefaan Van Hoyveldt came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Real Cruzeiro FC reached it. In the 63rd minute, Edmond Walder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Real Cruzeiro FC's Edgar da Costa slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Stefaan Van Hoyveldt. That made the score 2-3 after 65 minutes of play. 73 minutes into the match, Real Cruzeiro FC's Edgar da Costa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Stefaan Van Hoyveldt narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 74 minutes into the match, SK Gullegem's goalkeeper Stefaan Van Hoyveldt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edgar da Costa. In the 75th match minute, Real Cruzeiro FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Júlio Arruda to maneuver through the defense. After 77 minutes, Bruno Mattheijs mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SK Gullegem and the Real Cruzeiro FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Stefaan Van Hoyveldt made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Edgar da Costa sent off a good shot on target. In the 95th minute Severino da Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stefaan Van Hoyveldt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Real Cruzeiro FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
