The supporters of Vélez Juniors booed when Champions Iasi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Petruț Gorcea didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee ignored Vélez Juniors's protests and gave Damaso Playo a yellow card for diving instead. After 9 played minutes Vélez Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Damaso Playo. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guaberto Maraman in the 11th minute of play forced Champions Iasi's goalkeeper Cristinel Alexe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Guaberto Maraman in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cristinel Alexe prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Radu Siniştean kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Cristinel Alexe made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Guaberto Maraman sent off a good shot on target. 20 minutes into the match, Champions Iasi's goalkeeper Cristinel Alexe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Guaberto Maraman. Radu Siniştean charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Radu Siniştean the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Champions Iasi getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Radu Siniştean hit a great ball. 26 minutes into the match, Champions Iasi's goalkeeper Cristinel Alexe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arnulfo Confesor. During the 30th minute of the match Marin Petruescu completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Marin Petruescu a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. When Vélez Juniors's Guaberto Maraman in the 32nd minute got a chance for a shot 32nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Champions Iasi's goalie prevented a goal. In the 44th minute Guaberto Maraman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristinel Alexe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guaberto Maraman was the one to do the kick off. Arnulfo Confesor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristinel Alexe having to interfere. 56 minutes into the game, Adam Ghimiș lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Ulises Sandaili. 63 minutes into the match, Vélez Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Adam Ghimiș came free, but Ulises Sandaili reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristinel Alexe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnulfo Confesor in the 73rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Champions Iasi's Răzvan Postolache got a free kick in the 77th minute. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Vélez Juniors players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
