The audience thought a goal was coming when Avraam Chalkias got free with Mihály Földesi in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. István Juhász took the ball and in the 13 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eustratios Vertsotis. Eustratios Vertsotis dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Csaba Kossuth during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Csaba Kossuth kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. A collision led to Gyál United getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Balázs Berta hit a great ball. In the 22nd minute, Csaba Kossuth ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Eustratios Vertsotis was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Eustratios Vertsotis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from István Juhász in the 26th minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Gyál United's goalkeeper Mihály Földesi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Notis Trontzos. The referee felt a red card was in order, 37 minutes into the game, when Csaba Lisztes put in a rough tackle. Gyál United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Levente Nagy to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Olympiacos FC's Avraam Chalkias got a free kick in the 56th minute. The supporters of Olympiacos FC booed when Gyál United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Levente Nagy didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Miklós Bodnár in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eustratios Vertsotis prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Csaba Kossuth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Eustratios Vertsotis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eustratios Vertsotis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Csaba Kossuth in the 65th minute. Levente Nagy could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Eustratios Vertsotis made a huge save. The supporters of Gyál United booed when Olympiacos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miltiadis Tsiranidis didn't get a good kick on the ball. 73 minutes into the game, Levente Nagy cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. After 81 played minutes Gyál United got a freekick which was hit by Zsolt Kaszás. Eustratios Vertsotis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miklós Bodnár in the 85th minute of play. Olympiacos FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 91st minute, when Csaba Kossuth scored to the left of an out of position Eustratios Vertsotis, making the score, 1-4. Notis Trontzos struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Mihály Földesi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Olympiacos FC. Through an outstanding action, after 97 minutes, Eustratios Vertsotis successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexis Dellios in the 99th minute of play forced Gyál United's goalkeeper Mihály Földesi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Gyál United walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
