In the 7th minute, Pogoń Staszów's Urritz Nestares dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. Atauri Echandi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Grzegorz Sroka's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. Paul Săraru received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Atauri Echandi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Urritz Nestares took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Atauri Echandi to make any attempt to save it. Atauri Echandi was out of position in the 19 minute of play, and Rajmund Zajíc capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Rajmund Zajíc really showed his touch with that goal: 4-0. 22 minutes into the match, Resistencia Tayrona FC's goalkeeper Atauri Echandi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mario Balotelli. Atauri Echandi yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 7-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 7-0 at half-time.

After a defensive mix-up in Resistencia Tayrona FC's zone, Urritz Nestares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Atauri Echandi came out of the goal and Urritz Nestares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Resistencia Tayrona FC's Atauri Echandi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mario Balotelli in the 55th minute of play. Atauri Echandi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mario Balotelli, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Salbatore Yunibarbia's late challenge caught a Pogoń Staszów's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
