After a defensive mix-up in Imperio Catatumbo de Lara's zone, Pedro Ochoa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tristan Franquis came out of the goal and Pedro Ochoa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tristan Franquis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustavo-Hernán Egoi in the 18th minute of play. In the 22nd minute of the match Imperio Catatumbo de Lara got a corner. Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fernan Erus ran over to the corner to take the kick. Fernan Erus made a great header on Imperio Catatumbo de Lara's corner, it was just that Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's Generoso Gonzalez managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 23rd match minute Fernan Erus ran free in the middle of the field and shot a long shot which scored behind a totally surprised Generoso Gonzalez. 1-0. Imperio Catatumbo de Lara's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ben Breton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Generoso Gonzalez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ben Breton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amar Bouziane in the 56th minute of play forced Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's goalkeeper Generoso Gonzalez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Ben Breton came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Imperio Catatumbo de Lara fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ben Breton couldn't finish the play. Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's Bengt-Arne Åberg was substituted for Gustavo-Hernán Egoi. In the 64th match minute, Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rauno Rank to maneuver through the defense. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's goalie and right to Bruno Moneda. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Sportivo Smirnoff Vodka's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Tristan Franquis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Ochoa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Imperio Catatumbo de Lara's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
